Backup Technology Introduction

This introduction to our backup technology will help you understand how our backup products and services can help you protect important information for your business. Powered by our Partner, BitLeap, we offer a hardware-based data backup appliance, called LeapServ, that manages the data backup services for our customers. File Backups

The LeapServ sits on your network and connects to the servers you want backed up. It pulls data from the servers, compresses it, encrypts it and sends it securely offsite to two of our secure storage locations. Therefore, your data is actually backed up three times with the BitLeap system: once on your network and twice offsite.

The LeapServ uses standard network protocol connections to backup your data. This enables support for many diverse operating systems, including all versions of Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Novell, Unix and many more. Once setup, the LeapServ checks for new and changed data as often as you would like and keeps your data replicated offsite regularly.

E-mail Archiving

Our hardware solution offers optional advanced e-mail archiving services for backing up e-mails at a message level from Microsoft Exchange or Novell GroupWise e-mail servers. The LeapServ has the capacity to connect directly to your e-mail server and use application interfaces to archive all e-mail messages. These messages are then replicated offsite just like BitLeap’s file backups.

Archived e-mail messages can be viewed with folder support, filtered, restored and reproduced through the same web-based control panel that controls file backups. The message browser allows pagination and filtering of mailboxes and messages to enable practical and simple support for organizations with thousands of mailboxes.

BitLeap has developed advanced backup technology to deliver powerful features and lower backup storage costs for our customers. Some of these features are listed below.

Bit-Differential / Data De-Duplication Efficiency

Provides data storage and transfer bandwidth efficiency to keep data backup costs low by analyzing each file at the bit level and only copying and transferring new bit sequences.

Flexible Data Retention

Allows specification of detailed file-based and e-mail message retention policies for varying sets of data or mailboxes based on time intervals to keep data and e-mail.

Secure, Redundant Replication

Multiple layers of encryption, including AES 256-bit, protect all data transferred offsite and BitLeap stores everything in Two Offsite Data Centers on highly redundant disk-based hardware.

Local & Offsite Data Backup

All current and retained historic data is maintained both locally on the LeapServ for fast network-speed restorability and offsite in two different data centers for disaster recovery.

Centralized Online Backup Management

A single web-based control panel with configuration, reporting, restoration, statistics and account info centralize the management of our backup services — even across multiple locations.

Multiple Restore Options

Data is easily restored using the web-based control panel, a standard FTP connection, a mounted WebDAV volume, a Windows restore application, shipment of physical hardware or by technical assistance from Plexeon’s support staff.

e-Discovery Compliance

Appropriate message retention policies help organizations meet e-Discovery requirements for the retention and reproducibility of e-mail messages in order to comply with the updated rules for federal civil proceedings.
